Sceletium tortuosum is a succulent plant commonly found in South Africa, which is also known as Kanna.

Kougoed or Kanna is a potent plant of which the roots and leaves are often dried and/or fermented in order to create a potent powder that offers a variety of applications. From vision-inducing to anxiety relief, from aiding in meditation to increasing sensory perception (and sexual power).

In South Africa the Sceletium is ground up into a brown powder and typically ingested orally.
It is traditionally used to fight stress and depression, relieve pain and alleviate hunger.

Kanna main effect is elevate mood and decrease anxiety, stress and tension. At high doses can be euphoric but not hallucinogenic.

Kanna has been reported as smoked, sniffed and chewed as an inebriant by the indigenous people of south Africa.

In western countries Kanna use is spreading more and more. The shredded leaves are considered by many a great substitute to both tobacco and cannabis smoking due to its anti anxiety and mood enhancing properties.
